Over the Easter weekend, Year 12 student Zoe Congalton travelled to Auckland with three other Hawke’s Bay fencers to compete in a national fencing competition. This was a major event in the Fencing New Zealand calendar with over 170 competitors from across  New Zealand. All three weapons were fenced at the competition - Foil, Epee and Sabre.

Zoe sliced her way to glory winning the National Women’s Under-17 Sabre title. This competition was used to select the New Zealand team to compete at the Commonwealth Fencing Championships being held in London in August 2022. As a result of her performance at this tournament and over the last 12 months, Zoe has been selected to represent New Zealand in the Under-17 fencing team.

During Anzac weekend the regional Secondary School Fencing Championship was held in Wellington with four Hawke’s students competing. Congratulations  Zoe on winning the Women’s Sabre and Epee events.
