Havelock North High School athletes Georgia Hulls (pictured on the right), won 'Female athlete of the year' and , Olivia Campbell, 'Official of the year' at the HBSS Sports Awards held at the Napier Municipal Theatre last evening (31 October).
Georgia’s performances at the Junior World Championships (20th) and the Australian Junior Championships, (100m and 200m gold medallist), were enough for her to be awarded her category. "She must have been very close to taking out the overall sportswoman of the year", says the school's Sports Co-ordinator, Mr Geoff Morrison.
Olivia is a hockey umpire who not only umpired boys’ 1st XI hockey matches, including the Super 8 tournament, but also an international women’s match between Japan and Ireland. Other HBHS finalists in the sportsman of the year category were Hamish Legarth (kayaking) and Jack Francois (Tae Kwon Do), female cricketer of the year, Sophie Pyott, and the NZSS Junior champion futsal team, in the Team of the Year.
Congratulations to our winners and finalists who have achieved to a remarkably high level in their various sports codes.
