Yesterday, eight of our students, four from Year 9 and four from Year 10, represented our school at the Junior Mathletics Competition hosted by the East Coast Mathematics Association.
The event, held at Lindisfarne College, brought together 16 schools and more than 120 students from across Hawke’s Bay, ranging from Gisborne to Central Hawke’s Bay. Our representatives were: Year 9: Alex Maxwell, Felicity Landon, Charlotte Ovenden, Ryan Choy; Year 10: Ruby Boyce, Louie Howie, Tilly Jones, Sebastian Fernandez.
Students took part in three events: an individual round, a year group timed challenge, and a combined school final. Our Year 9 team placed third, and our Year 10 team placed second, missing first place by just half a point. In the final combined competition, our Year 9 and 10 students excelled, winning with 58 points, nearly double the score of the team in second place.
Individually, our students also performed exceptionally well, achieving the top two Year 9 placings and third place for Year 10.
