The annual HNHS Sport and Cultural Dinner, held on the 25th of October at the Havelock North Community Centre was to celebrate the achievements of our top students in their respective fields. This prestigious event was well represented by teachers, parents, and students and was capably managed by the heads of the school sports and cultural committees. The purpose of the evening is to highlight the accomplishments of our senior students in extracurricular activities, whether they be in the cultural or sporting fields of school life.
We were fortunate to have guest speaker Makayla Purcell-Mainini address the students on the importance of staying true to what you are passionate about and persevering through those hard times. Makayla is a local singer-songwriter and recently released her first Single on Spotify, ‘Poi Too kua’, which became the official anthem for the Women's FIFA World Cup.
The major award recipients were;
Best and Fairest - Isabella Turei
Matau Peak Performance - Sofia Lumbreras
Student Coach of the Year - Zak McGrath
Student Official of the Year - Hamish Hutchinson
Best Team Performance - Senior Girls Canoe Polo
Joey Pieterse, Tayla Hook, Kiera Buchanan, Jordy Thompson, Holly Andrews, Meaghan Broad, Sophia Coram-O’Kane, Jordan Dunford

We would like to acknowledge the commitment and enthusiasm of everyone involved in making the evening a success and thank the staff, tutors, coaches, and parents who have inspired and have given their time to lead their teams and choirs through another successful year.
