Showquest Success for 2019

On 27th May Havelock North High School competed in Showquest for the second time.  We were all eager to get back into it, after our success at winning nationals last year.  Showquest is a new performing arts platform for schools to showcase dance, drama, music and technology. The goal is to create and perform a ten-minute original production that communicates a message to the audience, that we think is worth sharing. This year we decided that we wanted to give an insight as to what it is like to be diagnosed with a terminal illness. The protagonist of our plot is diagnosed with the illness and then falls into ‘Woe-world’ (inspired from Alice in Wonderland). We showed each of the five chronological stages of grief as a realm in Woe-world. These realms included; denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.  Our group came second overall in regionals, along with other special awards.  They were the Best Use of Prop Award, The Tikanga (Sportsmanship) award and The Wearable Art Award.   As a director, I couldn't be more proud of how well the team pulled together this show in just five weeks.  We couldn't have done it if it were not for my amazing co-director Grace Francois, Health, Safety and Tech director Nick Batey, our protagonist Beverley Hussey, protagonist Luis Sharp, Mrs Hanham, Ricky Watson for creating our wearable art, and all the cast and helpers on the day.  No matter the outcome, nothing will ever be able to take away from this amazing experience and brilliant show that we were able to put on.  The performance can be viewed below.
