On the August 31st, Havelock North High School Showquest group competed at the inaugural Hawke's Bay Regional Showquest competition at the Pettigrew Arena in Napier. A teenager's first cellphone often signifies the end of their innocence and a dramatic reduction of parental control and influence. Their piece 'Join the Circus' explored the relationship between cell phones and teenagers through the metaphor of a circus. Their intention was to depict how cellphones give teenagers unrestricted access to an exciting but dangerous environment, which can be addictive and impossible to escape. Their entry received the 1st place and awards of excellence for, Best Lighting, Production, Wardrobe, Design and Performance. Special thanks to our student leaders Grace Francois, Charliot Miller, Amelia Slade and head techie Nick Batey. Congratulations to Chris Jackman, Caitlin Hedge and Julian Tabat for their dynamic and compelling performances.
On Thursday 20th September the talented students from Havelock North High School won the top spot at the Showquest national final, becoming the first overall winner of New Zealand's new music, dance and drama showcase for schools.
