Head Boy, Zahn Philip
Zahn says, "As head boy this year, my goal is to encourage every student at Havelock North High School to do the best he or she can and take every opportunity. As well as this, I want to have a significant impact on Havelock High so it continues to reach new heights and makes this year its best year yet.
I put my name forward for head boy because I wanted to give back to the school that has done so much for me. I saw it as an opportunity to be a role model and an encourager, while being able to represent HNHS with pride, ensuring it receives all the credit it deserves.
At HNHS I have achieved year 10 and year 11 scholar badges. I was announced as Hawke’s Bay Young Entrepreneur of the year in 2015. I have been a member of the First XV rugby team since year 11 and received a rugby excellence award last year; I am in the first tennis team.
I am studying economics, accounting English, statistics and physics.
When I leave school, I intend to go to university to study law and commerce. I really enjoy these subjects at school and think it would be an interesting career path.
I wouldn’t be the person I am today without the support and guidance of my parents and teachers. As long as I can remember, my parents have encouraged me to never give up and to stay strong in my morals and faith. My teachers at Havelock Primary, Hereworth and Havelock North High School all believed in me and inspired me to do my best. So I have great gratitude and respect for the input they contributed to my life because, in the end, it has made me who I am."
Head Girl, Ella Knobloch
Ella says, "As Head Girl of the school, I want to help create an environment where everyone feels comfortable being themselves, having a go at anything, and who are surrounded by others who encourage them to be their best and have fun.
I love our school and want to help others love it as much as I do. To me Head Girl is more than a badge and I know I can work hard and be a positive role model around our school.
I have completed my Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh awards as well as working toward a Gold last year. I attained Levels 1 and 2 NCEA endorsed with excellence and have been involved in some awesome sports and cultural groups. My biggest achievement, though, has been the people skills I have gained and the friends I have made.
I am taking physics, chemistry, English, calculus and picking up technology fabric to try to learn some new skills, since I completed Level 3 biology last year.
I am hoping to study science and potentially get my PhD one day. I love physics/astronomy, but also ecology, so I will see where my subjects take me this year.
I love to play netball, adventure race and indoor rock climb. I have just completed my second Spirit of NZ voyage and have been lucky enough to be a part of four school productions and some amazing choirs over my four years.
Those who have helped me get to where I am today are my hilarious family, who keep me grounded and support my every step, along with my friends who have stuck by me and kept it fun; my teachers and staff who have encouraged me to do my best, while helping me achieve my goals. I also owe credit to the Spirit of Adventure Trust who gave me incredible leadership over my two trips."
