The HNHS drama team Three’s A Company, comprised of Bianca Kirk, Molly Power and Jack Warren journeyed to the National TheatreFest finals with director Matt Brebner over the weekend of 9-11 September and returned from Invercargill with three awards tucked away in their carry-on luggage. Bianca Kirk brought home the J. Aitchison Memorial Award for Distinctive Emerging Actor, while Three’s A Company won the Selecon trophy for Technical Design for “their imaginative use of stagecraft, costume and lighting”. They were also awarded a prize of $100 from the Drama Development Trust as national finalists in the NZ TheatreFest competition.
The team’s excerpt from Measure for Measure was the only Shakespearean piece in the finals and the adjudicator Phil Peleton singled out actors Molly Power and Jack Warren for their “strength and simplicity of movement” to promote “effective delivery of every line”, describing this as “something we can all learn from”.
Top honours for the night for both Best Youth Production and Book of Honour for Overall Winner went to Wellington duo Brown All Around, the team HNHS placed first equal with at the North Island finals in August.
Our three actors and director wish to offer their sincere thanks to all who have supported us so generously over the last month in our fundraising efforts.
