A World Rowing Record for Imke Kitchin

Imke Kitchin set two significant records at the NZ Secondary Schools' Rowing Championships held at Lake Ruataniwha in April.  Imke has been rowing since September last year and has made the first Hawke's Bay boat in novice girls eight, four, quad sculls and double sculls. Rowing records are set on an erg or rowing machine so that water conditions, wind or boat type do not effect the time. She set a World Record in the U 15 100m with a time of 17.0 seconds, which took 1.2 seconds off the previous mark. Imke’s time is also better than any U 17 or U 19 records.  An hour later Imke attempted an erg for the Olympic distance event of 2000m. She took a massive 17 seconds off the old standard with a time of 7.18.00. setting a NZ record.
Now that it is the rowing off-season she is playing netball as a goal shoot for the HNHS Senior A and the H.B U-15 teams.
