The annual Hastings Civic Honours Awards were held this week to recognise the individuals in our community who work tirelessly behind the scenes. This event provides an opportunity to honor their passion and commitment, and we would like to extend our congratulations to two staff members, Robbie Cargill and Leah Setford, for receiving awards this year.
Robbie is a leader in musical education at all levels across the community. He works tirelessly to contribute to important civic events with groups, as well as being an outstanding soloist. He has been the Last Post soloist of ANZAC services in Hastings, Havelock North and Waimārama for many years, and was musical director of Deco Bay brass for seven years and still conducts as a guest on request.
Multiple sports clubs and codes have benefited from Leah's dedication and expertise over many years in a variety of volunteer roles. Currently, she is a junior convenor for the Cornwell Cricket Club, a Deputy Chair/Disciplinary Board Member for Hawke's Bay Netball, and a child protection and health and safety officer for the Heretaunga Sundevils swimming club. Leah had revolutionised the disciplinary process for netball and junior rugby in Hawke's Bay and dedicates many volunteer hours to all her roles.
We thank both Robbie and Leah for their commitment to the community and Havelock North High School. This recognition is well-deserved.
