Tapas Kant Dux for 2023


On Thursday 2nd November we held our Senior Prizegiving. This was an opportunity to recognise and celebrate student achievement throughout the year with our senior students, staff, and whanāu. Congratulations to all our prize winners for their outstanding academic, sports and cultural achievements, and to those who received special awards. We are delighted to announce our top scholars for 2023, Tapas Kant and Alex Grant. Tapas was awarded the Foundation Trophy for Dux for the second year and Alex was the recipient of the David Barham Trophy for Proxime Accessit. 

Tapas received the Barrett Cup for excellence in the Sciences; Prize in Chemistry, Prize in Biology, Prize in Physics, for which he received the Kenwright Cup, Prize in Economics and Prize in Geography. Tapas also received the Mathematics Cup for excellence in Mathematics; Prize in Mathematics with Calculus and distinction in external Mathematics with Statistics, and external English Film.  Tapas is an exemplary student. His behaviour, attitude and work habits are highly impressive as is his respectful appreciation and quiet humility. Tapas has a remarkable capacity for learning and he has the ability to master new and challenging concepts with relative ease. At the same time, he is prepared to apply himself to any task and appreciates the time and energy required to reach academic excellence. 

 

Alex is described by teachers as creative, authentic, focussed and hard-working. Teachers have noted the dedicated approach Alex has taken to ensure academic success at a high level. Alex received the Haddock Arts Award for excellence in the Arts, the von Dadelszen Cup for excellence in the Humanities; Prize in Media Studies, Prize in Art Design, Prize in Painting and distinction in external English Film.
