Karsen and Sofia Win Gold

What a great day for our HNHS team of 19 students who competed in the ECNISS Cross Country in Gisborne on Wednesday 9th June, with eighteen schools represented. Strong racing by our year 9 girls saw Amy Nicoll and Lili Ganivet finish in the top 5, supported by Mackenzie Speers, Wyntah Green Thom, Zoe Helliwell and Katelyn Turei, to finish second in both the 3-person and 6-person teams.

Year 10 student Molly Simon was the only HNHS competitor in the 3km junior girls’ race and finished in the top five whilst Oscar Holm finished eighth in the junior boys’ race.

The year 9 boys’ team of Micah Tarry, George Knott and James Wallace took out third place in the 3-person category.

Year 11 student Sofia Lumbreras comfortably won the 4 km senior girls’ race by three minutes leading from the front all the way.

Our senior boys were led by Karsen Vesty who won the race, supported by Lorcan Rabbitte 4th, Cameron Potts 7th, Toby Evans 8th, Cole Fletcher 12th and Adam Engelke 16th to win the 3-person and the overall team gold as well.

Congratulations to all the students who competed well and were supportive of each other throughout the day.
