Young Chef Wins Gold

The National Secondary Schools Culinary Challenge ( NSSCC) was held at E.I.T over the weekend. Congratulations to Year 12 student Abbie Lythgoe on her winning dish and gold medal.  Abbie had to prepare, cook and plate, two individually plated portions of an entrée course within 60 minutes. The entrée portions had to contain fresh New Zealand-grown broccoli as the main component of the dish. Abbie will represent Hawke’s Bay in the Grand Final against seven other teams in Auckland on 8th September.

This event gives our students the opportunity to meet industry NZ Chefs, be critiqued, and learn from the best hospitality professionals. The following students received awards and high praise for their entries with a total of six golds and five first in class. Thank you to our Food Technology teacher Kate McLennan for all her hard work and support in preparing the students for this event.
