David Holmes, at the Hastings RSA, initiated a training programme for secondary school players in 2008, leading to an interschool tournament.  The Havelock North High School team won this tournament.

An all-new team for 2009 is training for this year's competition.   Some of them will travel to Auckland, representing Hawke's Bay in matches there.
