The Havelock North High School Library, with its facilities, resources, systems, services and staff, plays an essential role in the school.

• support and enrich the learning and teaching of students
• provide material and promotion programmes to support the school’s literacy and reading programmes
• foster a love of recreational reading as a life-long habit
• aim to provide a collection which reflects the needs and interests of all members of our school community
• fulfil our role as the primary gatekeeper to the information landscape by providing centralised, effective access to reputable information sources within and beyond the school
• encourage our users’ confidence, independence, co-operation and enjoyment in using the resources most relevant to them
• project ourselves as a welcoming environment in which students and staff may undertake successful resource-based learning and teaching
• provide opportunities for students and staff to develop information skills using a wide range of resources, including information technologies
• encourage all students to take responsibility for their library by providing training programmes and incentives for student librarians and helpers.
