The Havelock North High School Board of Trustees invites you to apply for one of our Year 9 scholarships for 2010.

We are looking to recognise up to 12 incoming pupils who are already putting our school motto, “Aim to Excel”, into effect. As a school, we take pride in a culture which promotes academic, cultural and sporting excellence and which also aims at developing citizenship and leadership in our young people.

We invite applications for the following scholarships:

  • 2 Academic Scholarships of $1,000 each. These will be awarded to pupils who can provide evidence of exceptional academic ability.
  • 10 Scholarships of $500 each. These will be awarded to 10 pupils who can provide evidence of excellence across two or more fields of endeavour.

               -  academic

               -  sporting

                -  cultural

                -  leadership

Each of the scholarship winners will be selected on this basis:

  1. An application form.
  2. A Curriculum Vitae which outlines the pupils previous achievements across a range of activities.
  3. We will then draw up a short-list and invite these pupils to an aptitude test in English and Mathematics which will be held in the afternoon of Friday, 8 August.

The application form and CV must be received by the school no later than Friday 31 July. Applicants should expect to hear the result of the selection process by Monday 17 August.

Successful applicants must notify the school of their acceptance of the scholarship by Friday 28 August.

The scholarships will be in the form of a single payment into an account held at the school from which pupils/families may draw to pay any school related costs. Uniform, sports gear, sports subscriptions, subject fees, school trips, music tuition etc. are all appropriate uses of the money which will be held in a reserve account until it is all spent. It is not a requirement that all money be spent in the first year.
