OFFERING OPTIONS THAT EXPLORE CAREER-RELATED LEARNING
The purpose
- Facilitate transition to the workplace for students, particularly those intending to go straight into the workforce or those likely to leave school without any formal
- Provide or purchase tertiary-type courses which will better meet students’ needs (this includes the gifted and talented), which will motivate them to achieve, and facilitate their smooth transition to further education, training or employment.
- Support students to explore career pathways and help them make informed decisions about their schooling and future work or study.
- Extend the range and mix of courses and opportunities available to senior students at Havelock North High School through:
distance learning courses
- courses with outside provider
- short introductory courses over 1-3 days
- workplace training or work experience
- industry field days
- industry assessed courses run by school

- it can provide hands on work based programmes
- the courses are available at no cost to the students
At HNHS, a full year Future Pathways programme takes up a subject line on a student timetable. As STAR can be tailored to a students individual needs, it can fit anywhere on the timetable and therefore be more flexible around the students other subjects.
