Physical Education
OVERVIEW
Being one of the essential learning areas, physical education is strategically placed to cover the skills, attitudes, values and knowledge required to enjoy a healthy lifestyle and manage their personal wellbeing. We aim to provide the environment for students to learn the skills necessary to become confident, capable, caring and co-operative citizens.
Active participation and enjoyment are seen as key, but a positive attitude and an acceptance of others are also really important in the development of the individual.
COURSES
The Year 9 programme looks at the development of basic skills and confidence through active involvement in many different activities. They progress in Year 10 to learning about the strategies and rules of various team sports. The opportunities to develop various inter-personal and leadership skills are provided in the way the programme is taught.
Year 11 (level 1) Physical Education provides an opportunity for students to look at why they participate and what the benefits and consequences are, covering topics like functional anatomy, exercise physiology, influences on wellbeing and looking at strategies to improve their inter-personal skills.
Year 12 (level 2) Physical Education provides the opportunity to apply topics such as biomechanics, principles and methods of training, sports psychology and the relationship between exercise and health.

Greeting his pupils, the Master said, “What would you learn of me?” and the reply came, “How shall we care for our bodies? How shall we rear our children? How shall we work together? How shall we live with our fellow men? How shall we play? For what end shall we live?” So the master pondered these words, and sorrow was in his heart, for his learning touched not on these things. - PHYSICAL EDUCATION DOES!
